Eiderdown in a natural wonder material without parallel. The qualities of the eiderdown are unique. It is covered with extremely fine and almost impossible to see, soft, hook-like threads, which cause the down to cling together. The down is very airy which results in surprising lightness, high insulating property and good ventilation capabilities.

Yearly about 3,000 kg. of cleaned Icelandic eiderdown is produced. It takes about 60-80 bird nests to produce one kilogram. The supply of the eiderdown each year is dependant upon the conditions of the nature.

Icelandic eiderdown is subject to strict regulations as a product. Iceland has passed an Act on Quality Inspection of Eider down, no. 52/2005. According to the Act, it is illegal to distribute eiderdown, whether domestically or abroad, which has not been inspected and valued by an officially appointed eiderdown inspector, after it has been fully cleaned. Before distribution domestically or abroad, a certificate must be issued, which certifies that the eiderdown has passed a quality inspeciton of an eiderdown inspector. During certification, the eiderdown's cleanliness is inspected, its color, smell and its cohesion, and its weight is certified. The certificate is filled out, stamped and sealed together with the product to confirm weight and quality.

Nowhere during the production of the eiderdown is it necessary to use chemicals of any kind, unless the buyer specifically requests that the eider down is washed. Washing the eiderdown is not necessary and it is rarely done unless the potential user of a product containing eiderdown has know allergies, such as for hay. If washing is done at the request of the buyer, chemical substances must be used. Nothing is mixed with the eider down. It is therefore a 100% organic natural product.
